Pets on Wheels of Scottsdale provides pet visits to the following health care centers. The volunteer-pet teams each visit their designated care center weekly greeting residents in the lobbies, up and down the hall, and in day rooms. They enter the rooms and place small dogs and cats on the beds (with permission) so they may be stroked.

There are about 2,000 residents and patients in the nursing homes, hospitals, and treatment centers. The nursing homes average about 100 residents, with about 100 hospice patients and more than 100 Alzhimers patients, in all. The dogs are exercised before each visit and any unusual occurrence is reported to a staff member. Needless to say, many of the staff members take the opportunity to pet and talk to the animals.

Many of the care centers schedule annual volunteer appreciation events to express their thanks to the volunteers.
